Stubbs strikes late to give Kinsley Boys bragging rights in derby against Hemsworth MW

Two late goals turned the game round and earned Kinsley Boys first bragging rights from their NCE Division One local derby at Hemsworth MW.

A game between the two promoted sides swung one way then the other before finally going Kinsley’s way thanks to two late goals by Luke Stubbs as they won 3-2.

It was their second win since coming into the division for the first time this season and lifted them up to 15th with seven points from their first six league matches.

Hemsworth, who were 2-1 up at the end of normal time, were also edged out 1-0 in a midweek match at Brigg Town and three defeats in eight days in league and cup has seen their promising start to the campaign abruptly halted.

They are now two places below Kinsley with six points from their six Division One matches.

It was Kinsley who played the better football in the first half of Saturday’s game and deservedly led through Louis Andre only for Ashley Bell to equalise with a penalty just before the break.

Hemsworth were much improved in the second period and looked set for victory after Aston Dunstan fired them ahead 17 minutes from time.

But the game was turned on its head when Stubbs put away a 93rd minute penalty for Boys and they were quickly on target again with Stubbs netting his second.

Kinsley host Immingham Town on Tuesday night then travel to Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday while Hemsworth will be looking to bounce back at Selby Town on Tuesday and are at home to Route One Rovers on Saturday.

Frickley Athletic battled to the final whistle, but went down 3-2 in their NCE Premier Division game at Penistone Church.

The Blues have now gone five games in league and cup without a win, but did not make it easy for their hosts.

Penistone went ahead through Reece High only to be pegged back within two minutes as Josh Dacre netted.

Harry Viggars put the hosts back ahead and High’s second on the stroke of half-time made it 3-1.

But Frickley did not fold and their battling second half efforts were rewarded with a goal from Charles Price.

In added time they came close to snatching an equaliser when Charlie Clegg’s curling free-kick looked destined for the net only for the Church keeper to produce a flying save.

A home game with Retford FC is next up on Tuesday followed by a trip to Barton Town on Saturday.
