Wakefield Athletic pegged back by Mad Ox after Heidari’s spectacular double strikes
Wakefield Athletic had to settle for a point after surrendering a commanding 3-1 half-time lead against The Mad Ox in Wakefield Sunday League’s Premiership One.
The 3-3 result means the two sides remain inseparable this season, having also played out a goalless draw when they met just two weeks earlier.
Wakefield started brightly as striker Ridhwan Aldaiki broke clear to find himself one-on-one with the Mad Ox goalkeeper, but his delicate chipped effort drifted agonisingly wide.
Despite the visitors' early dominance, it was Mad Ox who struck first. A seemingly harmless through ball somehow evaded the Wakefield defence, allowing Matthew Jenkins to race through before calmly slotting past keeper Joe Head.

Athletic responded in impressive fashion just three minutes later. Ray Cheng's pass down the flank found Amir Heidari who beat one defender before cutting inside and weaving past two more challenges. From 25 yards out, he unleashed a superb strike to level the scores.
More opportunities followed for Aldaiki, Kane Whitaker and Heidari and the pressure was rewarded when neat play down the right saw Aldaiki win possession near the corner flag before delivering an inviting cross met perfectly by Hammad Ali to make it 2-1.
Ten minutes later, Wakefield extended their lead in spectacular fashion. Heidari capitalised on hesitation from the home side's right-back, stealing possession before curling a first-time effort from 25 yards into the top corner to make it 3-1.
The visitors nearly added a fourth in the closing moments of the half, but Whitaker's effort was brilliantly tipped away by the home goalkeeper to ensure the score remained unchanged at the interval.

The second half began in a similar fashion with Wakefield enjoying much of the possession. But against the run of play, Mad Ox were awarded a controversial penalty. Although the referee appeared unable to identify the alleged offender, the spot-kick was given and Freddie Benton made no mistake from 12 yards.
Athletic struggled to rediscover the rhythm and control they had shown during the opening period and it was all square in the 75th minute as a cross into the area was headed home from four yards out.
Both teams pushed for a winner in an exciting finale. Goalkeeper Joe Head tipped an excellent shot onto the bar before Wakefield came close in the final minute when substitute Robbie Barry's effort was parried behind for a corner and from the resulting set-piece, Ussy Mohammed's powerful back-post header was superbly saved moments before the final whistle brought an end to the contest.
The Procrete man of the match award was shared between Whitaker, Heidari and Matt Jones.

A vastly depleted Wakefield Athletic A side produced a spirited and commendable performance despite narrowly losing 2-1 to high-flying Stanley United Sunday in Premiership Two.
With only six recognised players available, Wakefield were forced to call upon members of their third and fourth teams to fulfil the fixture. Despite the adversity, the home side showed tremendous character and struck first when fine link-up play down the led to Tino Jesinawo calmly slotting home.
Stanley were soon handed a golden opportunity to respond when they were awarded what appeared to be a soft penalty. However, Wakefield were given a reprieve as the visitors failed to convert from the spot.
An equaliser did come, however, as striker Jacob Reed latched onto a well-weighted through ball to fire past keeper Connor Mellor.

Wakefield continued to ask questions of the Stanley defence, but a series of impressive saves from the visiting goalkeeper ensured the sides remained level going into the interval.
As the game wore on, Stanley benefited from the use of their full complement of substitutes while the hosts had only the tireless Archie Chivers available from the bench. Despite tiring legs, Athletic continued to battle admirably, but conceded what turned out to be the winner when their opponents were awarded a second penalty and this time Aaron Kitao made no mistake.
Wakefield pushed for an equaliser, but a combination of last-ditch defending and further goalkeeping heroics denied them a deserved share of the spoils.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Wakefield, not least an encouraging debut from 17-year-old Alex Fox.
The Smiths Window Cleaning Services man of the match award was shared by Mellor, Luke Hughes and Tom Vurgest.
A disastrous first half left Wakefield Athletic B with far too much to do as they suffered a 7-1 defeat at home to Hanging Heaton in Championship One.
Striker Josh Maciver led the way for the visitors with four of their goals as they built an unassailable 6-0 lead before the interval.
Chris Littlewood and Joe Richardson were also on target and the game was effectively beyond doubt.
Adding to the Athletic disappointment was a hamstring injury to captain Aleks Celebicanin, who is expected to face a spell on the sidelines.
There were some positives in a much better second half showing with new signings CJ Pygott and Hayden Froggett both making encouraging debuts.
Buba Dibaga hit the underside of the crossbar with a superb free-kick and the ball appeared to cross the line, but no goal was awarded.
They did manage a consolation as Jacob Laskowski continued his fine scoring form.
Although Hanging Heaton would add one further goal through Richardson for his brace, Wakefield can take some credit for the way they responded after the interval.
The BDM Engineering Services Ltd man of the match was jointly awarded to Dibaga, Pygott and Salym Sillah.
Depleted Wakefield Athletic C endured a difficult Sunday morning as Graziers Reserves produced a dominant display from first whistle to last to claim a comprehensive 9-0 victory in Championship Two.
Graziers flew out of the blocks and immediately imposed themselves on the game as despite a string of fine saves from Aaron Dooley they raced into an early three-goal lead.
Musa Kabba did have an effort cleared off the line, but it stayed 3-0 to half-time.
Looking to inject some pace and energy into the attack, manager Vinny Killey moved Dooley into a midfield position with Josh Walker taking over in goals.
But the pattern remained the same and Graziers added six more goals. Their scorers were Bradley Gregson (three), Alex Payloe (three), Joe Francis (two) and Brandon Hodgson-Murray.
With around 15 minutes remaining, Killey introduced himself into the action for a cameo appearance. Although he was unable to spark an unlikely comeback, he came close to providing the travelling supporters with a memorable consolation.
Spotting the goalkeeper off his line, Killey tried his luck from a wide position and saw his audacious effort crash back off the crossbar. Unfortunately, it proved to be one of Wakefield's few bright moments of the match.
The Procrete man of the match was jointly awarded to Dooley, Adam Langwade and Owen Milner.
