England legend takes over as new Wakefield Trinity wheelchair head coach
Wakefield Trinity have appointed England star Jack Brown as their new wheelchair head coach.
Brown arrives at Wakefield with a firmly established reputation as one of the greatest English players in the history of Wheelchair Rugby League as a two-time World Cup winner.
A stalwart of the England national team since its inception more than 20 years ago, Brown won the inaugural International Rugby League Golden Boot in 2019 – one of the highest individual honours in the sport.
Still at the peak of powers on the pitch, the 36-year-old was named as player of the match in Halifax Panthers' Grand Final victory over Leeds Rhinos last month.

That was the sixth Grand Final win of Brown’s illustrious career to sit alongside the six Challenge Cup trophies he has lifted with Halifax.
Brown has also enjoyed huge success as a head coach, leading Queensland to four successive Wheelchair State Challenge triumphs between 2021 and 2024.
He will combine his head coach position at Trinity with his playing career at Halifax.
Everyone at Wakefield Trinity is thrilled to welcome Brown to the club and believe that the vast experience he has amassed during the course of his decorated career can support the growth of their wheelchair team as they seek to make further positive strides in the National Championship during the 2027 season and beyond.

Discussing his appointment, Brown said: “I'm really excited to get stuck into my role as wheelchair head coach and to continue the growth of the team here at Wakefield Trinity.
“There’s been so much success here at Wakefield over the past couple of seasons which comes down to the foundations that have been set and getting the right culture in place.
“Wakefield have got that spot on in so many different areas and anyone that has got that culture spot on, that’s a safe bet for me.
“I've been talking with the club for a few weeks now and I’ve been really interested in the direction that they want to take in Wheelchair Rugby League.
“They want to be real innovators and trendsetters in how the sport can grow, which is something I really align with as I’ve always been a big advocate of the sport’s potential.
“I’ve always been really passionate about the development of the sport and I’ve seen so many improvements here at Wakefield already in recent years.
“The club wants success, wants to be promoted to Super League and wants to be competitive in Super League and there’s a very specific and detailed plan in how they see that happening too. It was a no-brainer to take this opportunity and be part of it.”
Wakefield Trinity director of rugby Ste Mills, added: “It’s unbelievable for the club to welcome someone of Jack’s calibre as our new head coach, given his amazing track record as both a player and a coach.
“When you speak about Wheelchair Rugby League, even to those with a limited knowledge of the game, Jack is one of the faces that people recognise and we know just how big of a name Jack is within the game.
“As you saw in the Grand Final last month, Jack is a phenomenal player and an incredible coach to lead our wheelchair team.
“To bring Jack to Wakefield Trinity is a massive statement of intent from the Club.
“We know where we’re at currently in the wheelchair game but we want every single team here at Wakefield Trinity to be at the top and fighting for trophies.
“We’re really pleased to have Jack on board and we’re all looking forward to the future under his leadership.”
Jimmy Gittins, director of wheelchair rugby, continued: “When we wrote down some names identifying our new head coach, Jack was at the top of our list.
"When you talk about the best of the best, Jack is right up there with all of them in terms of what he has achieved personally and as part of a team.
“We’re really ambitious here at Wakefield Trinity and we’re so fortunate to have been able to bring Jack to the club.
“Jack really shares our ethos around supporting Disability Sport through Wheelchair Rugby League, and so to bring Jack in as our new head coach, it adds a whole new dimension to our team and our players.
“I think this appointment is testament to what we’ve put together here at Wakefield Trinity and how we've grown that someone of Jack’s calibre wants to come here and make a huge difference.”
