Wakefield Trinity cruise to comfortable Magic Weekend win over rivals Castleford Tigers
Wakefield Trinity cruised to one of their easiest wins of the season by running in nine tries against sorry rivals Castleford Tigers at Magic Weekend.
Having been pushed right to the very last seconds in the dramatic victory over Huddersfield Giants last Sunday, Wakefield had it all their own way in the Liverpool sunshine from the off in one of the most one-sided games you are likely to see.

Cameron Scott, Tom Johnstone and Caleb Hamlin-Uele got two tries each while the returning Lachlan Walmsley, Tyson Smoothy and Josh Rourke went over in a dominant 48-6 triumph.
It could, and probably should, have been a whole lot more.

Defensively, Trin came within 90 seconds of keeping their neighbours to nil again in 2026 having trounced them 34-0 at the OneBore Stadium in April, as Jason Qareqare grabbed a late consolation for Cas.
The signs of an impending, commanding win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium were there inside three minutes as Jake Trueman kicked to the corner where Walmsley palmed the ball back for Scott who did the rest.
A similar kick to the same corner, this time from Jack Sinfield, somehow found Scott again but he was denied a quick-fire double with Isiah Vagana deemed to have knocked-on by the video referee.
The Tigers had another let off as Johnstone tried his acrobatic best to keep the ball alive for Will Tate who touched down, but the winger was adjudged to have entered into touch.

Sinfield then escaped the Cas defence to create a two-on-one but he didn’t quite execute the pass for Walmsley who fumbled.
It was proving to be one-way traffic with Trin seemingly carrying on from where they left off in that last-gasp win over the Giants at the DIY Kitchens Stadium last weekend.
And that dominance started to show on the scoreboard with Johnstone diving over for his 11th Super League try of the season after Trin worked it well to the left, Hamlin-Uele powering over and Scott barging through the Tigers’ defence to make it 20-0 at half-time
Last year’s Magic Weekend encounter between these West Yorkshire rivals in Newcastle ended 32-8 Trinity in what was another supreme performance.
This was turning into something even better, especially when Walmsley, in his first appearance since the Round 2 victory at Huddersfield due to a knee injury, marked his return with a spectacular bang in the far corner.
Then the procession started. Smoothy went over by the sticks after great work from Hamlin-Uele and Caius Faatili, before Hamlin-Uele could not be stopped by the Cas defence.
There was just no stopping Trin who were well on their way to a third consecutive Super League win. If it wasn’t already, we were entering rout territory.
A flowing move involving Trueman, Rourke and Tate resulted in a Johnstone converted try making it 42-0.
At this point, it was 76-0 in Trin’s favour against Cas in 2026 but Qareqare thought he had given the Tigers’ fans something to celebrate when he touched down, but it was disallowed for a knock-on in the build up.
Rourke completed the scoring for Wakefield when he claimed a high Sinfield kick before Qareqare’s consolation effort, but there was no stopping a dominant Trin side from moving up to third.
