Primark confirms opening date for new Wakefield store – and when the old shop will close
Primark has confirmed exactly when shoppers can step inside its brand-new Wakefield store at Trinity Walk.
The new store will officially open at 9am on Friday, November 27, marking the next chapter for the retailer in the city.
But shoppers will need to be aware of a short gap between the two stores.
Primark’s current shop at The Ridings Shopping Centre will close for good at 5.30pm on Thursday, November 26, ahead of the move to its new home.

The retailer is relocating into the former Debenhams unit at Trinity Walk, keeping Primark firmly at the heart of Wakefield city centre.
The new store will offer 30,000 sq ft of retail space across one floor, making it slightly larger than the existing shop. Customers can expect a fresh, modern look, with upgraded fixtures, improved signage and new display units.
It will also feature Primark’s popular Click & Collect service, giving shoppers access to an even wider range of products through the Primark website.
The move will see all 80 existing Primark colleagues transfer from The Ridings to Trinity Walk.
A further 40 colleagues have also been recruited, bringing the total team at the new store to around 120 people.
Neil Ford, Primark’s Director of Sales for the Midlands and West, said: “We’ve been proud to serve customers in Wakefield for more than 30 years, and we’re delighted to be continuing that journey from our new home at Trinity Walk.
“The move gives us an opportunity to create an even better shopping experience for our customers while continuing to offer the great value fashion and everyday essentials they know and love from Primark.”
He added that the store would open just ahead of Christmas, giving shoppers a new destination for gifts, partywear, winter clothing and homeware.
Trinity Walk Centre Manager James White said the arrival of Primark, alongside Tenpin, would transform the former Debenhams unit.
He said: “Thanks to Primark and Tenpin, the iconic former Debenhams unit will be fully reborn, which is testament to these brands and the attraction of Wakefield as a city to do business, visit and shop.
“Huge credit to Primark for their investment and dedication to providing superb high street shopping in the Merrie City and we can’t wait to see them open their doors here at Trinity Walk.”
