Can Wakefield hit 200? Simon Lightwood launches annual Christmas chocolate appeal

Wakefield and Rothwell MP Simon Lightwood has launched his third annual Christmas Appeal, with a target of collecting at least 200 chocolate donations for families in need across the local area.

The annual appeal follows the success of previous collections, with local residents donating hundreds of items over the past two years to help spread some festive cheer at Christmas.

This year, donations will once again be shared between two organisations – Leeds South and East Foodbank and Wakefield Street Kitchen.

Residents are being encouraged to donate a range of festive treats, including selection boxes, advent calendars, tubs of chocolates or sweets, chocolate biscuits, chocolate bars and other festive treats.

All donations must be unopened and in date.

Simon Lightwood MP said: “When I launched my first Christmas Appeal in 2024, I could never have imagined the fantastic support it would receive from local people.

“Every Christmas, residents across Wakefield and Rothwell have shown incredible generosity, helping us exceed our target and ensuring local families receive a special treat at what can be a difficult time of year.

“I’m hoping we can do the same again this year and reach our target of 200 donations.

"Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference.

“Thank you to everyone who supports the appeal and helps make Christmas a little brighter for local children and families.”

Donations can be dropped off at Simon Lightwood MP’s constituency office at 16 Westmorland Street, Wakefield, WF1 1PJ, between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, until Thursday, November 19.

In certain circumstances, collection can also be arranged by contacting the office on 01924 682269 or emailing [email protected].
