Castleford plumber wins regional honour

A Castleford plumber has been recognised for his exceptional skill and dedication.

Luke Thomson has been announced as plumber of the year in the Yorkshire and Humber regional category of the 2026 Plumber Awards.

He was praised for two particularly challenging jobs – replacing an outdated hot water system and resolving a plumbing fault that had caused a lingering smell in a customer’s home for over a year.

Both projects showed Luke’s ability to tackle complex problems while leaving homes safe, comfortable, and fully functioning.

He said: “These jobs were especially satisfying because I could solve problems the customer had been dealing with for some time and make their daily lives easier.

“It’s a real honour to receive this award and to represent Yorkshire’s plumbing talent.”

Luke now has the chance to compete for the national title and members of the public can support him by voting on the Plumber Awards website before midnight on April 30.

Public votes will be combined with judges’ scores and a technical challenge to decide the overall winner.

The Plumber Awards, run by the team behind the long-running Heating Installer Awards, were launched to give plumbers across the UK the recognition they deserve.

Organisers said much of the work 150,000 qualified plumbers working across the country do goes uncelebrated.

The awards focus on plumbers working on domestic projects, from drainage and blockages to emergency callouts and home renovations.

Judges praised the high standard of entries in the inaugural awards and said Luke’s work stood out for both technical skill and customer care.
