Wakefield Mela brings communities together at Thornes Park
Thousands of people turned out at Thornes Park for the third Wakefield Mela.
The annual event brought communities from across Wakefield and beyond together for a day of live entertainment, food, stalls and family activities.
An India versus Pakistan Kabaddi match was among the major attractions, drawing crowds as part of a programme celebrating Wakefield's diverse communities.
Organisers said the event had been their biggest and best event yet.

Mohammed Ayub, one of the organisers, said the turnout showed what the Mela was about.
He said: “It was fantastic to see so many people from across Wakefield and beyond coming together at Thornes Park.
“The Mela is all about community, bringing people together and celebrating our diversity, and seeing families and people of all ages enjoying themselves made all the hard work worthwhile.”
The event was organised by a small team of volunteers, including Mohammed Ayub, Nazia Hussain, Sobia, and Sikander Khan, with months of work going into bringing the Mela to Thornes Park.

Organisers also thanked the young volunteers who supported the event, as well as community elders Javed Iqbal and Bashir for their continued support.
Gagan hosted the event, while Kashi organised the Kabaddi. Radio Sangam and Kesser organised the stage, sound and artists.
Thanks were also given to the sponsors, local businesses, stallholders, performers, community groups and other supporters who helped make the event possible.
Oganisers have already begun planning for Wakefield Mela 2027.
