Their appearance comes as new Boots research reveals half of people in Yorkshire say they can appear confident to others while secretly struggling with self-doubt.

For Amanda, rebuilding her confidence followed cancer treatment and severe hair loss. She discovered a Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor, who showed her beauty techniques including how to draw realistic-looking eyebrows and apply false eyelashes.

Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors are on hand in hundreds of stores across the UK, and can advise.

You can also shop online for Boots eyebrow products and false eyelashes, including ranges from brands such as Eylure and KISS.

Amanda also built up a colourful collection of 15 bold wigs, helping her rediscover confidence and self-expression, while music, chatting with friends and doing jigsaws became everyday mood boosters.

For Bea, a stage performer, preparation, singing and dancing – alongside her daily beauty routine – help her feel confident and express herself on stage.

Amanda and Bea's experiences echo the wider Boots research, which found almost three-quarters (74%) of people in the region put on a brave face when feeling overwhelmed at least once a month, while 52% do so at least weekly.

Yorkshire’s confidence gap

The Boots research also revealed how people across Yorkshire are dealing with confidence, self-doubt and the pressures of everyday life.

Almost three-quarters (74%) of people in Yorkshire said they put on a brave face when feeling overwhelmed at least once a month, with 52% doing so at least once a week.

Young adults appear particularly affected. Among 18 to 24-year-olds in Yorkshire, 81% said they put on a brave face at least weekly when feeling overwhelmed.

But the research also identified the everyday things that can provide a lift.
