Medals for everyday heroes as Pontefract care home celebrates Superhero Day

Team members at a Pontefract care home were presented with medals recognising their contribution to life at the home during a superhero celebration in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

Priory Gardens, on Ladybalk Road, held its Superhero Day on August 28, with colourful costumes, an Olympic-themed egg-and-spoon race, beanbag toss and a parachute game, alongside a buffet prepared by the home’s kitchen team.

Chef Bradley Taylor and Kitchen Assistant Marie Murphy were recognised as the best-dressed team members.

Bradley dressed as Spider-Man, while Marie appeared as Wonder Woman, Batman, Spider-Man, Superman and the Hulk at various times throughout the day.

All team members received a ‘well done’ medal and enjoyed a buffet and treats.

Capes, masks and superhero outfits added to the occasion, with team members posing against a comic-book backdrop and spending time with visitors.

The home raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society as part of a wider Superhero Day initiative across Bridge Oak Care Homes, celebrating everyday heroes while supporting the charity.

Held in the lead-up to World Alzheimer’s Month in September, the celebration also highlighted the importance of supporting people living with dementia and their families.

The international awareness month encourages greater understanding of dementia and challenges the stigma surrounding the condition.

Debbie Davies, Home Manager at Priory Gardens, said: “Superhero Day was a lovely opportunity to thank the people who make a difference to life at Priory Gardens every day, presenting each team member with a medal was our way of recognising their kindness, hard work and dedication.

“There was plenty of colour and laughter, and everyone put so much effort into making the day special.

"Congratulations to Marie and Bradley on their costumes and thank you to our kitchen team for preparing the buffet.

“We’re proud to support the Alzheimer’s Society. As World Alzheimer’s Month puts dementia in the spotlight, we hope celebrations like this help bring people together and encourage understanding and support for those living with dementia and their families.”

Priory Gardens Care Home is part of Bridge Oak Care Homes and provides residential, dementia, nursing and respite care.
