'˜Predatory paedophile' locked up for 19 years

A '˜predatory paedophile' will spend 19 years behind bars after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two children.

David Allan Harris, 55, of Plumpton Road, was sentenced to the jail term for three offences of rape and other sexual offences against a then teenage child and of sexual offences against another victim.

He was jailed after a hearing at Leeds Crown Court last Friday.

Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Lisa Redfern of the Wakefield Child Protection Unit, said: “David Harris is a predatory paedophile who has been convicted and sentenced for offences against young and vulnerable children.

“He took advantage of his victims and abused them in an appalling fashion. The length of his sentence reflects the very serious offences he has committed and shows how seriously the courts treat these crimes.”

Police investigations into Harris began in November 2014 and he was arrested later that month.

Detective Chief Inspector Sue Jenkinson of Wakefield District Police said: “I want to commend the courage of these victims in reporting the abuse they suffered and hope seeing Harris jailed will bring some comfort to them.

“Investigating offences of child sexual abuse is a top priority for Wakefield District Police and is handled by dedicated child protection officers who work to support victims throughout police enquiries.

“We fully appreciate how hard it can be for victims to come forward but can promise that those who contact us will be treated with compassion, care and discretion.”

Det Chief Insp Jenkinson was commended by the judge.
