Featherstone’s Jamie triumphs in national pool competition
A Featherstone pool player has been crowned national champion after an outstanding run through a UK-wide competition involving players from hundreds of community pubs across the country.
Jamie Evans, 33, lifted the Proper Pubs National Pool Championship title after progressing from local qualifiers at The Railway pub to victory in the national finals.

The competition, organised by Proper Pubs, is contested by players from more than 245 community pubs across the UK and forms part of the wider Admiral Taverns estate of more than 1,300 pubs.
Jamie began his journey by winning both the local pub heat and pub final hosted by The Railway, Featherstone, earning a place in the regional finals that were held at Bear on the Hill in Oldham.
This brought together 10 players who had all won their own pub heats and Jamie progressed through the competition before producing a dominant 4-0 victory in the final.
The win earned a £100 bar tab for The Railway and secured his place at the National Finals Day at The Gamull in Preston where 20 qualifiers from across the country competed for the title and the £1,000 top prize.
Jamie won his opening match 2-1 before repeating the scoreline in the second round. He then defeated his semi-final opponent 3-1 to book his place in the final, where another 3-1 victory saw him crowned national champion.
The Featherstone player took home the £1,000 first prize and became the last competitor standing in a tournament featuring qualifiers from across the UK.
On his fantastic achievement, Jamie said: “I'm absolutely delighted to have won the title. The standard was very high throughout and everyone at the regional and national stages had already come through qualifying competitions to get there.
“To progress all the way from The Railway in Featherstone to becoming national champion is something I'm incredibly proud of.
"It's great to bring the title back to Featherstone.”
